FIGHT!

A large bull Kronosaurus is submerging after taking a gulp of air. His powerful flippers propel his huge bulk effortlessly through the water. He cruises steadily, not having anywhere to go. The water is warm and the weather is good. He’s enjoying his day. When you’re at the top of the food chain, you can afford to be lazy.

Hundreds of feet below the pliosaur, a lone Brygmophyseter patrols his territory. His pod is out hunting and it’s up to him to keep an eye out for intruders. He occasionally sends up a blast of sonar to check the area of ocean closer to the surface. Nothing bounces back for a while. Then it happens. Something bounces back. His advanced brain processes the information. A large reptile is near by. He’s not sure what it is exactly, but most sea reptiles this large usually pose a threat. He speeds toward the surface to investigate.

The Kronosaurus begins to sense something's out of place. Then, without warning, he’s struck by a powerful, but invisible force. It hits him a second time. The incoming whale is attacking him with powerful, concentrated bolts of sonar. They’re enough to disorient and even cause minor injuries to the deadly reptile. The Kronosaurus turns and faces his new rival. The Brygmophyseter collides head on with him, striking the pliosaur in the skull with his own. The whale can afford to this as his skull is quite powerful. But this is not the kind of combat the pliosaur’s head is designed to deal with. As the whale turns, he feels a terrible pain in his flank. The Kronosaurus has struck back and tears off a chunk of flesh and blubber. With blood drawn and injuries inflicted, the situation is quickly escalating.

The smart whale knows just what to do. He dives deep and his camouflage skin blends in perfectly. The Kronosaurus scans the ocean below him, searching for the whale that just vanished. As he peers through the water, he catches a glimpse of something. But it’s too late. The whale already has one of his flippers in his jaws. The teeth of Brygmophyseter are sharp, but not designed to tear. The whale lets go, leaving a pattern of deep tooth marks. The pliosaur turns on the mammal and snaps his enormous jaws just inches from the whale’s face. The Brygmophyseter manages to outflank the Kronosaurus and gets above him. He speeds back down toward the pliosaur and closes his jaws around the top of the Kronosaurus’ head. One tooth takes out an eye. The Kronosaurus bellows in pain and struggles to get free. The whale’s teeth snap and he loses his grip. One tooth is still embedded in the eye socket of the huge carnivore.

Before the Brygmophyseter can escape, the Kronosaurus attacks. He lunges forward and his jaws snap shut on the tail fluke of the whale. He does the trademark pliosaur death roll and tears off a chunk. The whale sends out a distress call, hoping his pod will come to aid him. Until then, he’s on his own. The Brygmophyseter charges the pliosaur, slamming his skull against his flank, cracking ribs. Both predators have tired and head for the surface to refill their lungs with air. The Kronosaurus finishes first and submerges. He attacks the whale while he can and tears into a flipper. The whale tries to fight back and strikes the Kronosaurus with his tail.

The Kronosaurus lets go and backs off a bit. The whale dives and comes back up at full speed. He slams into the stomach of the pliosaur, sending the reptile spinning through the blood filled water. Once he regains his senses and stabilizes, the Kronosaurus charges the whale, his huge jaws wide open. He’s only a few yards away when the Kronosaurus is struck by the force of a runaway freight train. Then another force hits him. Like a pack of underwater wolves, the Brygmophyseter pod works together to take out the menace. The injured whale backs off to let his pod finish this. The Kronosaurus twists and turns, trying to grab a passing whale. But the agile mammals are never within reach. They tear into him with their teeth and smash into him with their skulls.

The Kronosaurus knows he can’t win this battle. He starts to retreat, the whales nipping at his heels. Finally, when they realize he’s leaving, they let him go. However, a mixed group of sharks and small pliosaurs follow the trail of blood left by the giant. It’s unlikely the Kronosaurus will survive the night.

Winner- Brygmophyseter

The whale had one big advantage over the Kronosaurus. Not only was it smarter, but it had back up. One on one, the end result of this fight is very hard to predict. But Brygmophyseter was not a loner, and that tipped the scales in his favor.

Next time on Clash of Aquatic Titans...

Cretoxyrhina was the great white of it’s day. Giant Orthocones were the world’s first true super predators. What would a fight between these heavyweights be like? It’s the prehistoric great white vs the armored giant squid. Only on, Clash of Aquatic Titans!

Great job. Was rooting for Krono, but great job. Will be rooting for the Orthocone.

Nice fight! I was rooting for Kronosaurus, but I can see how the whale won. I'll be rooting for Cretoxyrhina in the next fight.

Thanks. Last night, as people were making it clear that Kronosaurus was the fan favorite, I just kept wondering what the reaction would be, lol

Nice. Loved how the Kronosaur survived the fight but runs the risk of being offed by scavengers chasing it. He got over confident and seems like he will pay the price for it. Also the giant squid/whale fight next time seems like it will be epic. Can't wait!
