CompsognathusMember0 XPDec-01-2014 1:20 PMI know many of you were wondering how big the Mosasaurus(it is a Mosasaurus specifically) is in Jurassic World. Well, I found out it weighs 15 tons. Here's a link...
http://www.jurassicworld.com/park-map/mosasaurus-feeding-show/
No length is given, but at least the weight is mentioned, so that's a bit more helpful :)

AllosaurusMember4297 XP2014-12-01 13:25:00Thanks for sharing! :) I believe I noticed it before, and according to my estimations, the mosasaur is 50-60 feet long.

Tyrannosaurus RexMember5639 XP2014-12-01 13:36:00REX FAN 684 - What a great find! Fifteen tons?! That's incredible! Thank you so much for sharing this! :)
CompsognathusMember0 XP2014-12-01 13:37:00Sure thing SR :D
CompsognathusMember0 XP2014-12-01 13:42:00Just imagine swiming in a river and then seeing that come from below with jaws agape.
CompsognathusMember0 XP2014-12-01 13:42:00At least it'd be quick, lol
CompsognathusMember30 XP2014-12-01 15:51:00Yes it would be quick ;) Nice post, thought that thing was huge just by looking at its throat ...cant wait...so hyped!!!
Im sorry but none of the stats listed on the website are not accurate. First off, that is no where near a 3 million gallon lagoon. Your looking at hundreds of millions if not more. Most small town water towers hold 1 million plus gallons.
Secondly great whites can get up to 20 feet. Being conservative lets say that shark is 10 feet. And, in a rough scale of a Mosasaur, the head is about 1/7 of its total body length. So when looking at the head of the one in the movie vs the shark. we are looking at a 80-140 foot long animal.
Finally when you look at a Blue Whale. Lengths up to 100 feet and weighing up to 160 tons there is no way that Mosasaur weighs 15 tons. More realistically 200-300.
Anyways it still looks amazing. I understand why they made it that big. But seriously whats the point of them creating a D-Rex when they already have something like that in the park. I kinda see that thing eating the D-Rex in the end.
CompsognathusMember0 XP2014-12-01 21:30:00I know right? That thing is the perfect size to nom on some diabolus rex!
Here, have a waffle (-'.')-#
CompsognathusMember81 XP2014-12-02 01:29:00I think that Predator X was a Mosasaur. Look it up. Largest predator ever found. Ate wales, sharks and other Plesiasaurs. They are all forms of Pliosaur.
45 metric tonnes, 15metres (45feet) long..... Biggest ever.

CompsognathusMember0 XP2014-12-02 04:21:00Predator X (Pliosaurus Funkei) was not a Mosasaur, it was a Pliosaur.
There is no such thing as a pure predator. A meat-eater is eit
Tyrannosaurus RexMember5639 XP2014-12-02 05:59:00BREGO - That was an extremely neat snippet of documentary! Very interesting! Thank you so much for sharing it! :)
CompsognathusMember0 XP2014-12-02 12:57:00Nor did Predator X eat whales. It was also not the biggest predator ever. Other pliosaurs may have been just as big, as could icthyosaurs, whales, and sharks.
And Dakota, everything else on the site is accurate and such, so I think this one is official. I'm not saying it's realisitic, but it's what they claim. Also, the whole 1/7th role is for pliosaurs, not mosasaurs.
CompsognathusMember81 XP2014-12-07 16:37:00hey Rex fan. Do some resaearch, they are all related. Also the Mosasaur shown in the trailer is incredibly huge and I may say rather unrealistically huge and would weigh much more than 15 tonne. Anyhow these pliesaurs ate anything they wanted too as they were the largest carnivores that we know about.
i have a feeling that our friend Mosasaur could end up having a DRex snack at the end of the film.......
CompsognathusMember0 XP2014-12-07 18:24:00The mosasaurs are not related to pliosaurs or plesiosaurs in any way, just look at the tree branch.
As for it's weight, it sounds reasonable. I always took the mosasaurs around the 12-18 ton...but any higher would be hard for me to believe. Could this creature be up to 70ft in length? I don't think so.
But anyways about the movie, it's said that the mosasaurus is a female. I wonder if she'll be shown killing anybody. ;)

CompsognathusMember0 XP2014-12-08 15:59:00Dakota is right on here.
Using the woman trainer, leaning on the railing at the edge of the lagoon for scale, we can immediately see this is a creature far, far larger than any currently known to science.

If we assume that the woman is a teeny, tiny little thing, just 4' tall, the Mosa's head measures out to 16' long. Plugging that into the "1/7th" size generator, we get an animal 112' long, Blue Whale territory, and nearly three times as long as Pred-X.
If we assume the woman is normal sized, say 5'10" tall, we get a Mosa over 186' long. This is twice as long as the claims for the Walking With Dinosaurs pliosaur, Liopleuridon, which is generally accepted to be spurious.
Even if we eschew the "1/7th" size generator, there is still up to 60' of Mosa sticking out of the water (5'10" woman), and I don't think we're seeing half of it yet.
I also think Dakota might be onto something with his idea that The D could end up in the lagoon. I know that is where'd *I'd* try to drive it, riding my motorcycle with my fellow members of the Flying Knives Gang...
CompsognathusMember0 XP2014-12-08 16:22:00Brego, the closest relatives of mosasaurs are today's monitor lizards.
Dunkleosteus, you must look at the perspective though...

It's not as big as you think.
CompsognathusMember0 XP2014-12-08 16:30:00You may be onto something, but suddenly the GW is laughable. It's a 5 footer. Go through all the trouble of cloning GW's, to feed them to your Mosa, and you use 5 footers? Kinda defeats the whole purpose of using GW's...
In the end, perhaps the perspective is somewhere between where I think it is, and where you think it is.
Besides that we should be used to oversized and crazy animals in these films, after tiny collared, venom-spitting Dilophs, and 12 foot long V-Raptors...
CompsognathusMember0 XP2014-12-08 16:36:00Indeed. Plus incredibally strong, toothed Pteranodons and huge stegosaurs.
CompsognathusMember81 XP2014-12-09 21:08:00I guess what I'm thinking is as with the hugely oversized Raptors in JP perhaps the name Mosasaur was more atractive to the producers than Pliosaur or Lioplurodon. Anyhow whatever the aquatic reptile is in the trailer, it is wayy to big to be a Mosasaur.

CompsognathusMember0 XP2014-12-10 13:23:00It may be a little big, but not too much. If you see my comment above on perspective, it's actually pretty close. Probably 60 ft and 15 tons.
CompsognathusMember81 XP2014-12-14 04:15:00Again there are plenty of stats on Pliosaurs, all of which were related in one way or another and the suposed Moasaur shown in the trailer is way too large than it it should be... It's nassive head alone would weigh a couple of metric tonnes. people the average horse weighs over half a tonne...
CompsognathusMember0 XP2014-12-14 10:51:00Once again, it's head LOOKS too big, but when you put it next to the handler with the correct perspective, it's around 6 ft.
