Something Real

Hello there.

I recently have stumbled upon a bit of information which states that small numbers of social media groups are stating that Jurassic World is, of all things, sexist. This is due to the fact of the sharply defined male and female roles presented within the film. Pratt is a fun-loving, laid-back fellow, while Claire is a more straight-laced authority figure - in a dress. Being a woman, I find this latest bash against Jurassic World to be ludicrous in the extreme. Claire, in my opinion, represents the calm, level-headed authority within the film - a successful woman at the height of her firm's ladder. What is sexist about that? I am a journalist at the start of my journey into the field, yet I absolutely adore wearing dresses and comporting myself in a dignified and objective manner. I like looking nice; is that me cornering myself into a "gender role"? I find the entire argument to be childish beyond my rational capacity to adequately describe my ire. Ugh! Well, now that I have vented, I want to thank each of you for being such wonderful chaps and ladies; you often renew my faith in the human species.

    Sincerely, SOMETHING REAL.

That is common to happen. Whenever something gets popular it is often called sexist. I've seen with video games and books.

I guess they want to express their hate in some way that will surely attract attention. I say just ignore them. Although I hate this phrase, you know what they say: "haters gonna hate."

Nonetheless, still excited for the movie!

IT'S TIME TO DU-DU-DU-DU-DUEL!!!

Sounds like the motives behind whoever started this (because I never heard a word of this before) are either A) get any attention, B) is the modern version of a politically-correct hard-on feminist who forgot what feminism is in theory, or C) both.  But the symbolism and allegory that Pratt and Howard have are not gender-based at all, it's corporate vs real.  I bet every user on this forum knows that, and I fearlessly predict that every user here did not think about sexism when following the film's news updates.

This stuff happens to every pop culture thing.  I think Jurassic Park struck a cord when it was released in theatres, especially with the "gender roles in survival situations" quote from Sattler.

Heck, even THE RAILWAY SERIES was under fire for sexism in the 60's, and then again in the mid-80's when it was made into "Thomas the Tank Engine" on television!  A KID'S BOOK SERIES!!!!

Lets talk about this for a second. As stated Prior by 401, Things get popular and people will find ANY reason to complain. Any reason.

This was actually posted on the main scified thread not too long ago, But It was only one little thing. It's interesting to see it's kinda blown up.

One of the Iron Man Writers made a Snide comment on twitter about the characters being too 1980's and sexist or something. This was met with an almost immeadiate backlash from Fans of the film, Calling him out for his writing on Iron man not drifting too far off of his own comment.

This died down to my knowledge, But, Old habits die hard. Someone's going to side with this person for no real reason. It the internet they all think they're invincible, and comment with little to know real knowledge on the situation of consequences for their actions.

There's nothing that can be done to reign it in. Nor would anyone ever be able to.

It's a shame, but we can't do anything besides spread that it isn't sexist. Although, We haven't seen the film yet, so we don't know if it's sexist or not.

Most likely not, The characters don't seem to be sexist, But things could potentially be different. Unlikely, But theres a chance.

ALPHADINO65 - The information you have provided is quite insightful! They really felt that Thomas the Tank Engine was sexist? I do not have the words to describe my shock at this knowledge. Regardless, thank you! :)

X_PADEN_X - I was not aware that this issue had been brought to light here! How very compelling! The manner in which you have presented your statements helps a great deal to shed light on the subject! Thank you! :)

Yeah, I hate the phrase but it applies well to what we're talking about here.

Im pretty sure this issue started when Joss Whedon reacted to that 1 clip of BDH and Chris Pratt conversing.

Seriously, some people take things waaaaaaay tooo complicatedly. I saw this one video on youtube its a compilation of videos by owners videotaping their dog's reactions when cats steal their beds and i shit you not, some guy commented that the video represents the stealing of land by one race from another ( apologies for not giving details since the comment is foul and offensive )

SAURORNITHOIDES - That is phenominally ridiculous. The stealing of land? Where do individuals come by their outlooks? Ugh! I am left with a distinct feeling of severe displeasure with regards to the way in which people have begun to devolve socially. However, the information you have presented was somewhat humorous! Thank you for sharing! It helps to keep things a little more light-hearted! :)

SAURORNITHOIDES - You were of great help! It is always quite agreeable to have others whom are willing to shed light upon subjects I find to be less than pleasing - especially those that illustrate the way in which everything seems to be offensive to today's insular society. The fact that I can speak to intelligent individuals who are not incapable of discussing a topic from an objective standpoint is quite encouraging. Thank you. :)

I've never heard that, but it's not true in the slightest.

@AlphaDino, HOW, in ANY way could ANYONE think that Thomas the Tank Engine is sexist? I'll need to further research this theory...

Anything can be considered sexist/racist/etc. in today's society.

Anything can be racist and/or sexist if you look hard enough.

"Oh my god, the woman character is wearing a dress, that's sexist!"

"Oh my god, the black guy is eating fried chicken, that's racist!"

People will find something to complain about in everything, so I say just ignore the people saying something is sexist or racist for stupid reasons.
