The information about Megalodon:
- Lived during the Early Miocene to the Late Pliocene Periods
- Swam in oceans all over the world
- Its fossilized teeth were mistaken for dragon tongues
- 3 times longer than a killer whale
- Weighs half as much as a blue whale
- Lived on a diet of dolphins, giant sea turtles and whales
About Megalodon
Megalodon is a prehistoric shark which lived approximately 23 to 2.6 million years ago during the Early Miocene to the Late Pliocene Periods. Teeth of these sharks were originally found in rocky formations during the Renaissance and most of the people who saw them thought that they were the petrified tongues of dragons. This notion would continue until 1667 when Danish naturalist Nicolaus Steno realized that these were actually the teeth of a shark. However, it wouldn’t receive its official name until the 1830s when it would receive the name Megalodon – a name which means “big tooth.”
As with most sharks, the fossil remains of Megalodon are poorly preserved. That’s because sharks have skeletal structures made out of cartilage and not bone. Cartilage doesn’t hold up as well as bone, which is why there isn’t a lot of fossil evidence of this prehistoric shark. Just some teeth and sections of a Vertebral column. Which is why it has been hard for paleontologists to estimate the size of this creature. Megalodon pictures, on the other hand, often tell a different story. Artists’ representations of these sharks usually have them big enough to take down an aircraft carrier. While they were probably pretty big, they probably weren’t that big.
However, despite the greatly exaggerated claims of its size, most paleontologists have come to a consensus on just how big these sharks really were. Most scientists say they were about 60 feet long and may have weighed as much as 75 tons. While that isn’t as impressive as some of the wild claims that this shark was over a 100 feet long and weighed over 150 tons, it’s still pretty big.
One of the most interesting facts about Megalodon, however, is not its size. No, it’s its diet. These sharks loved to eat not only fish but also dolphins, squids, giant sea turtles and sometimes even whales. Yes, whales! They were able to eat whales because they had an estimated bite force of about 18.2 tons – that’s enough to crush a whale’s head as easily as breaking a peanut shell. That bite force is even more impressive than that of a T-Rex!
The information about Pliosaurus:
- Lived during the Late Jurassic Period
- Lived around the shoreline of what is now Europe
- Was as long as a Sperm Whale
- Weighed as much as a Humpback Whale
- Was a Piscivore & Carnivore
- Fed of fish, marine animals and squids
About Pliosaurus
Pliosaurus is an extinct animal which lived approximately 150 million to 145 million years ago during the Late Jurassic Period. It was first discovered during the mid-19th century and described and named by Richard Owen in 1842. Its name means “Pliocene lizard” in Greek.
Pliosaurus pictures make this animal look very much like some kind of prehistoric crocodile, even though that is not the case and it actually belongs to the Pliosauridae family, although the whole family is what paleontologists like to refer to as a “wastebasket” taxon – which means that if there are any Pliosaurs which can’t be classified, then they are usually placed within this group.
Pliosaurus gave its name to the whole taxon, so it shouldn’t be too surprising that its features are what paleontologists look for in a member of this family. Which is a large head with heavy jaws, a pretty chunky trunk and a short neck. This is very different from its opposing taxon, Plesiosaurs – which have long necks, small heads and streamlined bodies.
Pliosaurus was approximately 40 feet long and weighed around 30 tons or about 60,000 pounds. That made it about the length of a Sperm whale, but only about the weight of a Humpback Whale. Which would have made it a feared predator of any fish which dared to cross its path. However, being one of the biggest doesn’t mean that you’re the safest.
Paleontologists believe that there were several reasons why this animal went extinct. First of all, Mosasaurs came on the scene at about this time and competed heavily with Pliosaurus for its main food source – fish. That’s because Mosasaurs were faster and agiler than Pliosaurus. They were also more vicious animals. This was just enough of an edge for them to out-compete Pliosaurus for fish. Second, water temperatures began to change during this time and this creature may not have been able to adapt quickly enough. Which is probably why this animal went extinct some 145 million years ago.
The battle begins!
A Pliosaurus was eating some fish, until he noticed that he was being watched by a Megalodon,he got bumped by the Mega, then Plio deciced to charge into Mega, and he charged into him, making Mega lose a bunch of blood, then Mega tried to bite Plio, but he wasn't fast enough, then Mega bit Plio's tail,he ripped the tail off,he wanted to break Plio's jaw, then Plio ripped some meat of the Mega,Mega lost a bunch of blood,Pilo also lost a lot of blood, but then Mega tried to bump Plio, but it didn't work, because Plio dodged the attack, and Mega landed on the beach, then Mega got dragged and got eaten by a Sarcosuchus, and Plio won.
Winner:Pliosaurus
Reason:He was more faster,he could charge into his enemy, and he can also dodge some attacks from the Megalodon
Guys, its night in my country,so i decided to write as fast i can,you might see some mistakes because i made this in a rush.
Eh, I think Mega would win, but I can see Plio winning. Then again, Megalodon is my favorite animal EVER... as you can tell by my profile pic... Nice fight.

Still... if you don't like a person because their famous, even though you liked them before they attained that fame... it's a bit of an odd thing... I mean... it's fame is just what other people think of it. Who cares if most people like T-rex? It's like saying you don't like Godzilla because he's the most famous Kaiju. You shouldn't dislike the fame of something. That's like if your best friend becomes famous and you're mad that the rest of your friends didn't become famous too. Also, it's kind of a punishment to people who only like T-rex because it's "THE DINOSAUR", the one that everyone else likes. There's so many creatures that they themselves might find cooler out there if they did an inkling of research, but instead they are punished for not doing it by not even being able to imagine what other amazing stuff there is out there. So what if most people like T-rex? It just means that those of us who like others more love them for what they really are, instead of the fame of the creature. In a way, T-rex is cursed by being too well known. A good portion of people just like it because it's the most famous one.
